New Staff at Transitions of PA!

Transitions of PA is growing!

 We have recently hired two new Legal Advocates to serve Union and Northumberland Counties. These individuals will assist victims navigate the justice system, file for protection orders, and provide civil and criminal court accompaniment.

 Bernadette F. is the new Legal Advocate for Union County.  She is a 2015 graduate of Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations.  Bernadette is excited to embark on this new career journey. With a background in domestic violence and sexual assault from a college internship, Bernadette is very passionate about the field and looks forward to gaining more experience.   SHe is eager to take on projects where she can further utilize her mass communications skills. 
Kim L. is the new Legal Advocate for Northumberland County. She graduated from Line Mountain High School and currently resides in Paxinos. She has been married for 14 years and has two children. She spent the last eight years working as the administrative assistant for Northumberland County’s Custody and PFA Office. She enjoyed assisting those who came through that office and learned a lot about the court system. When she decided to move on from the county, Transitions seemed like a natural fit to continue doing work that she already enjoyed.

               Priceless is a faith-based movie about a story of sex trafficking, aimed to bring awareness to this tragedy. The main character agrees to make a delivery in a truck to earn some money, without knowing what See was delivering. He finds out there are two young women in the back of the truck and seeks to save them from being captured and sold.                I saw this movie when it aired at the Campus Theatre back in December, and I left with mixed feelings. I am super glad people are working to bring awareness to this tragic issue, and I hope it continues. Update on PFC LaVena Johnson, Questions Still Unanswered

We mentioned this victim a while ago on our blog, and wanted to give you an update following a blog posted on The Huffington Post.  I would strongly encourage you to read their blog, as it is more thoroughly researched and reported than this.  Unfortunately, nothing had changed since our last posting.  The family still has no answers, and continue to exhaust all their resources. Although there is not much new to report of their journey, I think it is important to continue to talk about LaVena.  Her loss is in the news for a short time, but this family has lost her forever and misses her...forever.  I would like to add our voice to others calling for a Bill of Rights for Bereaved Military Families .  There has been a Victims of Crime Act since 1984 , and specifically, a Crime Victims' Rights Act since only 2004. Revenge Porn Covered in Local New Outlet

Local news outlet, Newswatch 16, covered the phenomenon of revenge porn , that we recently posted about. We appreciate their coverage of an important topic, and their respect for victims' privacy by not sharing the names of any websites.  PCADV's Ellen Kramer put it best when she said the practice is used solely to smear and intimidate women.  We hope that increased coverage and awareness of this type of behavior, specifically revenge porn and forwarding sexts to bully others, makes people more cautious of both taking and sharing these types of pictures.
