Domestic violence survivors often face economic hardships when leaving an abusive relationship.  Control and isolation by abusive partners has prevented many survivors from getting or retaining employment.  Abusers often limit victims' access to funds or even knowledge about household monies in order to maintain power and control over their partners.  Survivors who have left abusive partners often do not have basic financial knowledge that would allow them to find economic independence and reduce their likelihood of returning to an abusive partner in order to escape poverty.  Financial education and empowerment will assist survivors of domestic violence to successfully overcome these obstacles.
