for domestic violence victims to be conducted in 2014.

Transitions will utilize funds from the Allstate® Foundation Grant
to reduce barriers for domestic violence survivors by offering Allstate’s Moving Ahead through Financial Empowerment
program in Union, Snyder, and Northumberland counties, Pennsylvania. Providing financial management training to
those living in poverty will assist victims and survivors of domestic violence
develop the tools necessary to survive independently without returning to an
abusive partner.
Domestic violence survivors often face economic hardships when
leaving an abusive relationship. Control
and isolation by abusive partners has prevented many survivors from getting or
retaining employment. Abusers often
limit victims' access to funds or even knowledge about household monies in order
to maintain power and control over their partners. Survivors who have left abusive partners
often do not have basic financial knowledge that would allow them to find
economic independence and reduce their likelihood of returning to an abusive
partner in order to escape poverty.
Financial education and empowerment will assist survivors of domestic
violence to successfully overcome these obstacles.
